Sigma Nu Fraternity strives to serve both the local and university community. One way the fraternity gives back is by hosting its inaugural “Dingers for DeMaske” charity softball tournament. This tournament is participated in by members of the community, other greek life chapters, and the brothers themselves. The charity event is named in honor of Jordan DeMaske, a former brother of the fraternity. DeMaske was an inspirational figure within the fraternity, acting as a listening ear and always there for advice. He fought a long and difficult battle with cancer, which in where he coined his phrase, “Never Quit.” His selflessness and determination, even when facing a fatal disease, drove many to aspire to live a life as he did, and ultimately was the inspiration for the name of the tournament. The proceeds raised from the charity event go towards a scholarship instilled at West Virginia University and is named in his honor.
In addition to hosting their own philanthropic events, Sigma Nu continuously participates in community service as a way to keep the downtown in clean condition. The fraternity is involved each year with the Greek Day of Service, in which members of the chapter and other organizations pick up trash and work together in project teams to help beautify the local area. Sigma Nu also regularly helps to clean up its local street to assist city officials and road workers.
In the past, the fraternity has also hosted philanthropic events such as Sigma Nu Kung Fu Sumo Wrestling, Jammin' For St. Jude's benefit concert, and Sigma Nu Zorb Soccer.
